Matlyn Conservation Services provides free monitoring and reporting to land trusts and preserve managers. This is a volunteer-run effort with no paid staff so donations don’t fund staff salaries — they fund the visits themselves.

Every dollar goes directly into keeping visits happening year-round
Mileage & fuel
Regular visits across West Michigan add up in miles — transportation costs to the various preserves is one of the largest ongoing expenditures of the program.
Field gear & supplies
Computerized GPS tracking & recording equipment, uniforms and PPE supplies that help keep us safe while in the field.
Expanding coverage
Every gift brings us closer to taking on additional preserves and land trusts further beyond our home base area counties.
TAX STATUS
Where we stand with the IRS
Matlyn Conservation Services is a Michigan nonprofit corporation. Our application for 501(c)(3) tax-exempt will be filed once we have a few months of donations and operations to help show the scope of our program.
Once our application is approved, recognition is expected to apply retroactively to our date of incorporation — meaning gifts made now are expected to qualify as tax-deductible once that determination is issued. We’ll update this page and notify donors as soon as we receive our determination letter. If you have questions in the meantime, please reach out.
